Hi Dad — Setting Up Your New Movies & TV App

We moved off Plex to a new app called Jellyfin. It works just like Plex — same movies, same TV shows, same resume-where-you-left-off. Just a different app. This guide walks you through getting it set up.

Your Login

Keep these handy:

You'll use the same username and password everywhere — Fire TV, phone, tablet, computer, whatever.

Install the App

Jellyfin has an app for every device. Pick yours:

On your Fire TV / Fire Stick

1. On the Fire TV home screen, go to Find → Search
2. Type "Jellyfin"
3. Find the purple Jellyfin app and install it
4. Open it

On your iPhone / iPad

1. Open the App Store
2. Search for "Jellyfin Mobile" (the official one, purple icon)
3. Install it
4. Open it

On your Android phone / tablet

1. Open the Play Store
2. Search for "Jellyfin"
3. Install it
4. Open it

On your computer (web browser)

No install needed — just go to https://watch.shottsserver.com in any browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge).

First Time Signing In

Whichever app you installed, the first screen will ask for your server (sometimes called "server address" or "connect to server").

Server Address

Type this exactly (including the https://):

https://watch.shottsserver.com

Tap Connect (or press Enter).

Then it'll ask for your login

• Username: PAPA (all caps)
• Password: Papa2026! (capital P, then lowercase, 2026! on the end)

Tap Sign In. You're in!

tip: > Check "Remember me" if you see it. You shouldn't have to type it again on that device.

What You Can Watch

You have access to:

• 🎬 Movies — all our movies
• 👶 Kids Movies — kid-friendly films
• 📺 Shows — TV shows, all seasons
• 👶 Kid Shows — kid-friendly TV shows
• 🗂️ Collections — movie series grouped together (e.g., all the Marvel ones)

The Home screen shows things you're watching (resume in progress), new stuff, and recommendations.

Playing Something

1. From the Home screen, browse the rows or tap a library (Movies, Shows, etc.)
2. Tap any movie or show to see details
3. Tap Play to start watching
4. If you've watched part of it before, tap Resume to pick up where you left off

While watching

• Pause → tap the screen once, then the pause button
• Skip forward/back → arrow buttons (usually 10 or 30 seconds)
• Subtitles → the speech bubble icon lets you turn them on/off and pick English
• Audio language → gear/settings icon
• Exit → back button or menu

Your progress saves automatically. Close the app and reopen it anywhere — your watch position is waiting for you.

How to Request New Movies or Shows

If you want something that isn't in the library yet, you can request it and James will see it pop up for him to add. We use a website called Seerr for this.

First time using Seerr

1. Go to https://seerr.shottsserver.com in a web browser
2. When it asks how to log in, pick "Use your Jellyfin account"
3. Enter:
4. Username: PAPA
5. Password: Papa2026!
6. You're in.

To request something

1. At the top, use the search bar — type a movie or show name
2. Click the one you want
3. Click Request
4. For TV shows, it'll ask which seasons you want — click Request all seasons or pick specific ones
5. Click Request to confirm

That's it. It'll show up in Jellyfin within a day or two (depending on availability).

Common Problems & Fixes

"Can't connect to server" or "Server unreachable"

1. Make sure you're on the internet (Wi-Fi or cellular)
2. Check that you typed the address correctly: https://watch.shottsserver.com
3. Force close the Jellyfin app, open it again

"Incorrect username or password"

• Username is PAPA (all caps)
• Password is Papa2026! (exact capitalization, exclamation mark at end)
• If you forgot the password, text James — he can reset it

The app shows nothing — empty library

1. Sign out (tap your profile icon → Sign out)
2. Sign back in
3. If still empty, force close the app and reopen

A movie won't play / video freezes

1. Close and reopen the app
2. Try a different device if possible
3. Text James with the name of the movie that's broken

Where's the "resume" option?

When you open a movie or show you've partially watched, you'll see two buttons: - Play — starts from beginning - Resume — picks up where you left off

Tap Resume to continue.

On Fire TV, the app logged me out by itself

1. Sign back in with PAPA / Papa2026!
2. Check "Remember me" if you see it
3. If it keeps doing it, text James

Tips That Make It Better

Turn on "Resume" reminders

In the Jellyfin app settings, look for Playback options. Enable: - Auto-play next episode (for TV shows) - Ask before auto-play (if you want control)

Mark stuff as watched

Done with a movie? Hold down/long-press on it → Mark as played. This keeps your "Continue Watching" row clean.

Haven't watched it yet but want to remember? Add it to your Favorites (heart icon).

Create a watchlist

Tap the + button on any movie or show to add it to your watchlist. Then it appears in "My Media" → "Watchlist".

Getting Help

Text or call James if you run into anything. Mention which device (Fire TV, iPhone, etc.) and what you see (error message, blank screen, etc.).

Common things to check before calling: - Is your internet working? - Did you type the server address right? - Is your Jellyfin app up-to-date? (check the app store)
